Rope Access Concrete Inspection by Complete Access

Rope Access Concrete Inspection by Complete Access - Rope Access Specialists

We were called by Birmingham City Council to see if we could help Wolverhampton Council on an emergency inspection job .........

The site - Wolverhampton Civic Hall

The problem - Spalling concrete

An initial site visit was made on tuesday to determine work involved and access to the work area.

Client agreed our RAMS and we have attended site on Thursday to carry out inspection and removal of loose substrate, primarily to the front elevation directly above the main entrance....major events are programmed in for Friday and Saturday....

Our inspection findings consisted of major concrete spalling where re-bar was present and had corroded ..... this could suggest the presence of flourides, chlorides or high alumina cement.... the concrete samples have been sent off to the lab for testing.

Works to the rest of the building are ongoing.

Confined Space Cleaning - Management and Equipment

Explosive Confined Space Cleaning, Maintenance and Inspection Services

Under what conditions can an explosion occur?

There is a risk of explosion when several elements are present:

An oxidant: Oxygen over 23% in the air, for example......

A fuel: Gas or vapors: hydrocarbons, solvents, varnishes, gas, alcohol, chemical products, agents for manufacture of plastics, powders and dust: magnesium, flour, aluminum, sulfur, cellulose, cereals, carbon, wood, milk, resins, sugars, starch, polystyrenes, fertilizer, etc...... a hot spot or a source of combustion

For example, when filling a grain silo, the concentration of dust is very high. The environment then is dangerous: a rise in temperature, or even a spark, can trigger an explosion.

If a risk of explosion is identified in an environment (gas or dust), a safety requirement is imposed for the use of equipment that is specifically designed to function without becoming a potential source of combustion. ATEX equipment offers different types of protection designed to diminish the risk of explosion.

The ATEX standard (Ex)

What is the ATEX?

The ATEX regulation is a European directive which requires all heads of organizations to fully understand the risks related to certain explosive environments. To do this, an evaluation of the risk of explosion in a company is required in order to identify any locations where explosive environments could form, and then to put in place the means to avoid explosion.

How do you choose equipment that is adapted for an environment at risk of explosion?

ATEX environments are subdivided into three zones:

  • zones 0, 1 or 2 for gases
  • zones 20, 21 or 22 for dust

Our equipment is rated to Ex ATEX zones 0, 1 & 2 and all IP zones 20, 21 and 22.

Zone classification ATEX classification required for equipment
(for Group II, above-ground industry)
Zone 0 (gas)
Zone 20 (dust)
PERMANENT RISK
Category 1
VERY HIGH LEVEL OF PROTECTION
The explosive mix is present constantly or for a long period of time
Zone 1 (gas)
Zone 21 (dust)
FREQUENT RISK
Category 2
HIGH LEVEL OF PROTECTION
An explosive mix may form under normal working conditions
Zone 2 (gas)
Zone 22 (dust)
OCCASIONAL RISK
Category 3
NORMAL LEVEL OF PROTECTION
An explosive mix has a small chance of forming and would exist only for a short period

Silo Cleaning & Maintenance

Silo Cleaning & Maintenance

Silo cleaning has diverse benefits dependent on industry requirements.

In the food industry, annual cleaning is an essential part of hygiene. Where there is a constant re-supply of product, condensation or moisture can become problematic, this can lead to product adhering to the roof and top half of the silo, this can cause blockages or bridging, the product can also become contaminated with mould or even infestation. Cleaning on a scheduled basis can improve storage capacity leading to increased productivity.
On completion of all works, written & photographic reports can be supplied.

In the plastics industry, annual cleaning is not essential, mould and infestation are not a problem. The silo product can become contaminated and cause defects in the end product, particularly if the stored material is changed, an immediate clean is advisable when this occurs to minimise disruption to productivity.

Entry into Silo's is made via the hatch on top of the silo, our Rope Access methods allow entry, egress and rescue, all of our Technicians are fully trained to IRATA Standards and our working methods conform to the British Standard BS7985.

Our Technicians are trained and certificated in Confined Space Entry, Egress & Rescue  to occupational standards. All of our procedures conform to The Confined Space Regulations 1997 which include provision of site specific Risk and Method Statements. We also operate a Confined Space Entry Permit, this covers a pre-entry checklist to include air testing, communication and an evacuation plan. Whilst inside a confined space, working procedures include use of air monitors, testing for toxic gases, vapours and air particulates. Site specific PPE and escape BA sets will also be on hand in case there is the need of casualty evacuation.

Rope Access Commercial Window Cleaning Birmingham

Rope Access Commercial Window Cleaning Birmingham using Reach & Wash

We have deployed our Rope Access Team onto a new contract this week to deliver
High Level Window Cleaning to a Commercial Office Block in Birmingham City Centre.

We initially made a site visit to quote on the contract which we subsequently have been awarded to  undertake x5 cleans in the initial year......The glazing on the Building had not been cleaned correctly for some considerable time...... This is why our rope access services have been engaged.

Our Rope Access Window Cleaning Team are one of the most experienced in their field, delivering both traditional window cleaning using mop & blade and using Reach & Wash method.

Reach & Wash Window Cleaning is the preferred method on this building, we are using the Quattro System from Ionics....this is our portable 4 stage filtration system that takes out water impurities and delivers pure water.....
Due to the complex shape of the windows and frames, traditional methods of window cleaning wouldnt really work.
