Pigeon Guano Removal using Rope Access Birmingham

Specialist Cleaning using Rope Access Birmingham

We have been given the task of removing an infestation of pigeon guano from 6 high rise tower blocks on behalf of Solihull Borough Council.

We deployed our specialist cleaning team to carry out the works to the x6 14 storey tower blocks.

Removal of guano can come with risks to health but as long as these risks are managed then they become minimal.

In the first instance..... the correct PPE was issued to our techs..... safety goggles, P3 dust particle masks, safety gloves and overalls.

At initial stage, the guano is sprayed with PX Ornikill .... a specialist guano disinfectant that kills all the following bacteria associated with guano.....
  • Cryptococcosis is a fungal disease associated with droppings and also grows in soils. It is very unlikely that healthy people will become infected even at high levels of exposure.
  • Histoplasmosis is a disease caused by a fungus called Histoplasma capsulatum, which grows in pigeon droppings. It also grows in soils and can be found throughout the world.
  • Psittacosis is an infection caused by Chlamydia psittaci, a type of bacteria found in the droppings of birds such as pigeons. When bird droppings dry and become airborne people may inhale them and get sick.
The PX Ornikill is sprayed to kill the bacteria and to dampen the guano spores..... the guano is then scraped off the glazing and disposed of..... unfortunately most glazing that has been infested with guano over a number of years leaves an acid etching which cannot be removed.
